Scissor Sisters

Are these guys for real? Are they just a gimmick? It really doesn't matter as long as they put out super catchy ass-thumping tunes like this beauty!

VERVE - Endless Life

The guy who made this - Muscarine, whoever the hell he is, deserves a medal for both attempting and succeeding in adding visuals to this otherworldly song.

The Sleepy Jackson- God Lead Your Soul

Love me some Sleepy Jackson. Australian dude with a giant ego. Their music draws more from solo John Lennon than anything else. The guitarist Jules tried to get my wife to go backstage with him, the bastard.

Kasabian: Empire

The new Kasabian album is officially totally badass. This video seems bit on the "waste of money" side but the song is solid.

Janes Addiction - Classic Girl

I always loved this video and I've been meaning to track down a copy of the Gift movie, not easy. It's amazing how well the Ritual de lo Habitual album has aged. I found it unlistenable in 1990. Now it's one of the only albums from that era that I still get strong urges for today.

The Rapture - Get Myself Into It

I remember when I bought this album as though it were a day ago. It was actually two days ago and I've been obsessed with it ever since!

The Faint: Glass Danse

And from Omaha, Nebraska!? I generally hate 80's music but I can love the Faint.

Flaming Lips: do you realize

The most beautiful song I've ever heard. I bought this album immediately after the Station fire. The first time I heard this song, it was 3 days later and I was sitting on a gorgeous beach in the Dominican Republic, sipping a caipirinha. I actually felt like I was dead and that I was experiencing some sort of alternate ending, it was a terrifying and wonderfully unforgettable experience. I still have trouble listening to the words without becoming a complete puddle. It's about anybody and for everybody.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Going To Hell

Saw these crazy bastards last night and it was nothing short of mindblowing. Go ANTON!!! He was in rare form... as always. It was the first time I saw Joel, he was hilarious. He only plays when they're in San Francisco.

Lovage - Book of the Month

I've followed Mike Patton's overflowing body of work over the years, no easy task. I've always admired his commitment to constantly put something out and willingness to draw from the darker sides. His work ranges from barely listenable to completely amazing. Lovage is his collaboration with Dan the Automator (Gorillaz) and Jennifer Connolly (Elysian Fields). Apparantly there is a 2nd Lovage album in the works. I'll be there.

Publish My Love - Rogue Wave

Rogue Wave is easily the best new band I've stumbled into this year. I actually have to consciously stop myself from listening to them too often. Highly addictive.

Air - Don't Be Light

I'm at a rare loss for words.

Mazzy Star - Fade Into You

Every time I listen to this song, it gets my undivided attention. Hope Sandoval averages one album every 6 years or so, but they're all top notch. So sit back, shut up and brood!
The Coral - In The Morning

"Thought I was sleeping, it was just a dream..." I love this song although it doesn't really showcase the Coral's signature sound.

Colder - To the Music

We discovered Colder when we stumbled (literally) into their set at 3:00am at the Benicassim Festival in Spain, 2004. We were on our way back to our tent after a Primal Scream religious experience when we were drawn to a side stage by their undeniably hypnotic music. They're from France.
Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows

The song that changed everything.
Tom Petty - Saving Grace

So once again, Steady Petty releases another catchy, memorable song. Is it 1976, 1986, 1996, 2006? Doesn't matter. Unlike most rock dinosaurs, Petty never lost it. Thrilled this guy is still releasing music.
Add N To (X) - Take Me To Your Leader

Add N to X put out some of the craziest music I've ever cranked. I often pump my fist when listening to this one.
THE TYDE - BROCK LANDERS

I've been listening to the Tyde's Twice album a helluva lot since moving to California. Something about their carefree, sun-kissed attitude I suppose. New album drops this tuesday.

Verve: She's A Superstar live at Camden Town Hall

Greatest song of all time in my book and this live version is epic!

Elliott Smith- Pretty (Ugly Before)

Elliott Smith died too soon but he bared his soul to the world before he left. This song just gives me goosebumps. The lyrics capture a rare happy moment surrounded by an overwhelming sadness. I had never embraced the whole sensitive singer/songwriter thing until I discovered Elliott's incredible music.

The Beta Band: Out-Side
Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #1

Just to show how serious I am. This song is pure genius. Not sure about the video though...
The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)

I'm a firm believer that the fate of great music depends on this band. Though they only have one album, it's one of the most inspiring ones I've ever heard. They're the one band that refutes the "everything's been done before" argument. Who would ever have believed that an accordian could be cool?

The Monkees - Porpoise Song

The Monkees' answer to Strawberry Fields, taken from the unwatchable movie "Head". While it's easy to dismiss the Monkees as puppets, their music holds up.

The Bees: Chicken Payback

The Bees: Chicken Payback

The Bees are from the tiny Isle of Wight and they have 2 great albums with a 3rd on the way. I've been waiting patiently for them to make it over to tour the US but have started to give up. In the US they're called "A Band of Bees" because of some crappy jam band. Here is an example of a great video complementing a great song.

Because it needed to be done, that's why

It wasn't my intention to start yet another stupid blog but I need an outlet to talk about (non-KISS-related) music. This blog is basically for myself. It also answers the "what are listening to these days?" question.
